Old Aloe House Aruba

So what’s the big deal about Zeerover’s?

Zeerover’s is a casual, waterfront restaurant located in Aruba’s original capital city of Savaneta, just minutes from the Old Aloe House Aruba, and is our family’s favorite restaurant in Aruba, hands down. Zeerover means pirate, or one who plunders the sea in Dutch and it’s a fitting name for the fisherman who leave daily to plunder the sea in search of fresh fish and shrimp.

Originally nothing more than a place where fisherman would bring in their daily catch and kick back with a cold beer while they waited on the fish to be cut and processed for selling to the island’s restaurants and locals. Over time family and friends started asking for some of that fish to be cooked on the spot and a restaurant was born. Today’s menu includes fresh fish and jumbo shrimp which are paired with local side dishes such as "pan bati" (Aruban pancakes), "funchi" (hearty cornmeal cake or fritters) and "banana hasa" (fried plantain).

Bring cash only, form two lines, one for the food and one for the beer, then find a picnic table with a view to the ocean and Aruba’s amazing sunsets.

For our family it’s not just about the food, this place is home. My husband grew up here, my mother in law celebrates birthdays with her friends here and it is the place to be every four years during the World Cup. It’s where the cook treats us beer and we treat him back (after hours of course!) and it’s where the junk box plays Latin hits from back in the day.

We invite you to experience the authentic side of Aruba and live like a local, if only for just one day!
